Welcome to the NA Conference of Women Judges

Welcome! At the North American (NA) Conference of Women Judges, we advance the status and number of women in the judiciary in Canada, Mexico and the United States. First, we believe that society is best served by an equal and equitable judiciary. Second, to be equal and equitable, the judiciary must reflect the people that it serves. Otherwise, how can the public feel seen and heard? Our organization welcomes both individuals and organizations (local, state and regional) who wish to support this goal. Accordingly, we are very diverse and inclusive, boasting members from all manner of races, ethnicities, genders, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, and religions. We are judges, appointed and elected, administrative and XX, active and retired. NACWJ members are administrative law judges, commissioners, judges, justices, magistrates, special masters, and lawyers.

Why the NA Conference of Women Judges?

We founded the NACWJ in 2022 to better serve all women, women-identified, and non-binary judges, and to welcome members from Canada, Mexico and the United States to work together to achieve our mission. Specifically, we serve our members by connecting them with each other, educating them on cutting edge legal issues, and engaging them to work together as a think tank to bravely confront problems facing our judiciary today. The NA Conference of Women Judges holds conferences, social events and regular workshops where we discuss a variety of topics. What do our members care about? Judicial independence, trauma-informed courtrooms, court restructuring, criminal justice reform, access to justice, and tackling unconscious bias. Members are also passionate about making the pathway to the judiciary easier for people from under-served and represented minorities.

Our organization came out of the strength of another. Though we had to break away, we will always value the legacy and accomplishments of that organization. We had to part ways because of a difference in the importance the group placed on the protection of its LGBTQ+ members. Because of this, we have been very intentional in the structure and mission of NACWJ. Our hope is that we have both learned from the historical strength, and improved upon the weaknesses, of that organization.
